Why this one matters: Saturday's 51-lap Azerbaijan Grand Prix around the Baku City Circuit delivered a masterclass from championship leader Kimi Antonelli.
Starting from pole position, Antonelli withstood intense opening-lap pressure from teammate George Russell and Ferrari's Charles Leclerc before managing tire wear through Baku's castle chicane and 2.2km Caspian straight. A late safety car restart on lap 44 tested his composure, but the Italian rookie pulled clear to take the checkered flag in 1:31:28.412.
Russell finished 2.184 seconds behind to complete a dominant Mercedes 1-2, while Leclerc rounded out the podium for Ferrari. Antonelli's ninth victory of the campaign swells his championship advantage to 317 points over Russell (229) and Hamilton (201), while Mercedes cements its constructors command at 546 points.
The stakes
