Premier League MW9: Harry Wilson scores sensational stoppage-time brace as Fulham stun Brentford 2-1

Janelt screamer puts Brentford in command

The West London derby appeared destined for an away victory on Monday night, 2 November, as Brentford defended with stubborn discipline for over an hour at Craven Cottage. The Bees had taken the lead in spectacular fashion midway through the first half when German midfielder Vitaly Janelt collected the ball 30 yards out and unleashed an unstoppable left-footed thunderbolt into the bottom right corner past Bernd Leno.

Fulham dominated possession and territory, peppering the Brentford penalty box with 26 total shots, but goalkeeper Mark Flekken and center-back Nathan Collins stood tall, blocking waves of crosses and denying Alex Iwobi and Raul Jimenez from close range.

With time ticking away and Fulham staring at a third consecutive home defeat, manager Marco Silva made an inspired double substitution on 82 minutes, throwing on Welsh winger Harry Wilson and Rodrigo Muniz to bolster the attack.

What followed will live forever in Fulham lore. In the 92nd minute, Adama Traore powered past his marker on the right touchline and drilled a low cross towards the near post. Wilson read the trajectory, jumped with his back slightly toward goal, and produced an audacious airborne flick with the outside of his boot that looped gracefully over the stranded Flekken and nestled into the far side netting.

The Cottage erupted, but Wilson was not finished. In the 97th minute, with the final seconds of six allocated minutes ticking away, left-back Antonee Robinson whipped in a desperate diagonal cross. Wilson timed his leap between two defenders and cushioned a delicate header looping over Flekken and under the crossbar, sending the home support into pure ecstasy.

The 2-1 triumph lifts Fulham to 8 points and gives Silva’s side enormous momentum heading into November, while Brentford manager Thomas Frank was left devastated after watching three points evaporate in five breathless minutes.
