McLaren star leads all 62 laps under the floodlights to secure his third win of the campaign.

Singapore GP: Lando Norris delivers crushing 20-second victory over Verstappen at Marina Bay

Why this one matters

Formula 1’s night race at Marina Bay has earned a reputation as the most demanding endurance test on the calendar, where narrow margins and suffocating humidity frequently produce chaos. On Sunday night, Lando Norris turned that chaos into an uncontested clinic of driving excellence.

Leading from the start, Norris carved out a commanding gap of more than twenty seconds over reigning world champion Max Verstappen. The British driver crossed the line 20.945 seconds clear of the field, recording the largest winning margin at the Singapore Grand Prix in the hybrid era.

With Oscar Piastri finishing third after a spirited recovery drive from fifth on the grid, McLaren banked 40 points in a single evening, cementing their position at the summit of the Constructors’ Championship.

Complete control under the floodlights

Norris’s race was defined by ruthless precision:

  • The opening stint: Norris launched cleanly from pole, shutting the door on Verstappen into Turn 1. By lap 10, he had built a five-second buffer, lapping half a second quicker than anyone else on medium tires.
  • Managing heart-stopping moments: Even with a commanding 25-second lead, Norris kept pushing, brushing the outside wall twice at Turn 10 and Turn 14 without sustaining suspension damage.
  • Pit strategy execution: McLaren’s pit crew serviced Norris in 2.2 seconds on lap 30, returning him to the circuit comfortably ahead of traffic on fresh hard tires.

Championship stakes tighten

Verstappen drove an error-free race to maximize points in second place, but Red Bull had no answers for McLaren’s aerodynamic pace through Marina Bay’s twisting low-speed sections.

George Russell came home fourth for Mercedes, while Charles Leclerc salvaged fifth for Ferrari after starting ninth. With six rounds remaining, Norris continues to chip away at the Drivers’ Championship deficit, while McLaren’s package looks formidable heading into the Americas leg.
