Sanderson Farms: Kevin Yu birdies 18th in playoff to defeat Beau Hossler for maiden PGA Tour title

Why this one matters

For rising professional golfers on the PGA Tour, the FedExCup Fall represents a high-stakes arena where life-changing security and major championship exemptions are earned. On Sunday at the Country Club of Jackson, 26-year-old Kevin Yu seized that opportunity in unforgettable fashion.

With back-to-back birdie conversions on the difficult par-4 18th hole, Yu outlasted Beau Hossler on the first hole of a sudden-death playoff to capture his maiden PGA Tour championship.

The victory earns Yu a two-year tour exemption through the 2028 season, entry into the 2027 Masters Tournament, the PGA Championship, and the season-opening Sentry in Hawaii.

Back-to-back brilliance on the 18th

Trailing Hossler by one shot standing on the 72nd tee, Yu needed something special to force extra holes:

  • The regulation birdie: Yu striped his drive into the fairway and launched a precise 150-yard approach to six feet past the pin. Reading the right-to-left break perfectly, he poured it into the center of the cup to sign for a 5-under 67, tying Hossler (68) at 23-under 265.
  • Mitchell falls just short: 54-hole leader Keith Mitchell had a 35-foot birdie try on the 72nd green to join the playoff, but his putt missed by inches, leaving him tied for third with Lucas Glover at 22-under.
  • The playoff decider: Returning to the 18th tee in sudden death, Yu smashed a 310-yard tee shot down the center. He followed with a brilliant 110-yard wedge to five feet. After Hossler missed his 20-foot birdie attempt from the fringe, Yu stepped up and stroked the winning putt with complete authority.

Joining Taiwanese golf royalty

With the victory, Yu joins T.C. Chen and C.T. Pan as the only golfers from Chinese Taipei to win an official PGA Tour event.

Yu, a former Arizona State standout who graduated through PGA Tour University, dedicated the win to his parents and coaches who supported his journey from Taichung City to the pinnacle of world golf.
