WWT Championship Round 1: Chris Kirk fires bogey-free 63 to lead by one at El Cardonal

Kirk’s 63 on the Tiger Woods design

Chris Kirk led the World Wide Technology Championship after round one on Thursday, 5 November, at El Cardonal at Diamante (par 72, 7,452 yards). Associated Press copy on PGA Tour and ESPN says he hit every fairway, missed one green, and shot a bogey-free 9-under 63. Nick Dunlap and Zac Blair opened 64. Five players sat T4 at 65: Matthieu Pavon, Harry Hall, Taylor Montgomery, Kensei Hirata and Ben James.

The purse is $6 million. Kirk is about 110th in FedExCup Fall with three events left to finish inside the top 100 and keep a full 2027 PGA Tour card. More than half of the 120-man field broke 70.

Round 2 is not the desk

Friday’s second round was in progress at the time of this desk. Live widgets that move Kirk or Ben James during R2 are not treated as a finished 36-hole board. This story publishes the completed Thursday round only.
