Spurs digest first win: City hold three-point cushion

Spurs lift off the bottom

Tottenham Hotspur spent Wednesday preparing for Saturday’s London derby against Chelsea with renewed confidence. Spurs climbed out of 20th place and up to 16th on Monday night courtesy of a 3-1 victory over Coventry City at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. James Maddison opened the scoring in the 14th minute on his first start in 536 days, Omar Marmoush restored the lead in the 58th, and Ben Davies sealed the points in stoppage time. Attendance was recorded at 60,913.

The result leaves Tottenham on 6 points (1-3-3, 6 goals for, 10 against), level with Coventry City (2-0-5, 6 for, 14 against) in 17th. Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Sunderland occupy the bottom three places on 5, 5 and 4 points. There are no Premier League matches scheduled on Wednesday, 21 October.

Matchweek 8 on the horizon

Manchester City remain the benchmark, holding a perfect record of 21 points from seven matches after their 3-2 win against Ipswich Town. Arsenal trail by three points on 18 after Noni Madueke secured a 1-0 victory at Nottingham Forest, while Brighton sit third on 16 points following a 5-0 rout of Crystal Palace. Matchweek 8 begins Friday night with Ipswich hosting Forest, followed by Saturday’s headline fixtures: Aston Villa hosting Manchester City and Chelsea welcoming Tottenham to Stamford Bridge.
