World No. 1 Alexander Zverev battles 2019 champion Daniil Medvedev on Stadium Court in their 20th tour clash.

Shanghai Masters Final: Zverev faces Medvedev for Masters 1000 crown

Saturday semifinal results confirm championship matchup

The Rolex Shanghai Masters established its championship final on Saturday afternoon at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena with two authoritative semifinal performances. Top seed Alexander Zverev defeated Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-4, 6-3 in one hour and 28 minutes. Zverev produced a vintage serving display, winning 31 of 37 first-serve points and never conceding a break point against the unseeded Spaniard.

In the second semifinal, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev ended the remarkable run of 20-year-old Rafael Jodar, prevailing 7-6(4), 6-3. Jodar had captivated Shanghai with four consecutive three-set comeback victories, but Medvedev neutralized the young Spaniard’s heavy forehand with trademark baseline precision and 14 unreturned serves.

A historic 20th chapter on Stadium Court

Sunday’s final marks the 20th career tour-level encounter between Zverev and Medvedev. Medvedev holds a 12-7 head-to-head advantage, having claimed their previous Masters 1000 final showdown. However, Zverev arrives with the confidence of confirmed year-end world No. 1 status, hunting his second Masters trophy of 2026.

Medvedev, who hoisted the Shanghai trophy in 2019, aims to secure his first Masters 1000 title of the season. With overcast skies forecast and the retractable roof at Stadium Court primed, the Asian swing concludes with one of modern tennis’s most cerebral rivalries.
