Shanghai Masters: Bergs beats Alcaraz, and Zverev is year-end No. 1
Zizou Bergs won 7-5, 7-6 (4) on Monday. Jannik Sinner is not in the draw.
Monday’s result is an upset, not a Sinner return
Monday at the Rolex Shanghai Masters belonged to Zizou Bergs. The Belgian beat second seed Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the round of 32. The ATP results page lists that score. Reuters reports that the defeat confirms Alexander Zverev, the French Open and US Open champion, as the year-end world No. 1, the first German to finish a year there. Zverev plays Alexander Bublik in the round of 16.
Jannik Sinner is not on Monday’s list. Reuters reports that he has not played since the Wimbledon final because of a knee injury and will miss the rest of the season, including the ATP Finals. This desk does not print a Sinner match for Monday.
