Shanghai Masters Semifinals Saturday: Jodar rallies past Ruud to face Medvedev
The 20-year-old Spaniard becomes the youngest semifinalist in tournament history. Zverev meets Davidovich Fokina on Stadium Court.

The ATP results page for Friday 16 October at the Rolex Shanghai Masters confirmed both remaining semifinal berths. Rafael Jodar pulled off another comeback victory, beating Casper Ruud 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 in two hours and 20 minutes on Stadium Court. Jodar dropped the opening set before breaking Ruud five times across the final two sets, becoming the youngest semifinalist in Shanghai tournament history.
In the night session, fifth seed Daniil Medvedev defeated 15th seed Tommy Paul 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 in two hours and eight minutes. Medvedev hit 16 aces and 31 winners to reach his 70th tour-level semifinal and 19th at Masters 1000 level.
Saturday semifinal slate on Stadium Court
Saturday 17 October features both men’s singles semifinals at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena.
Top seed Alexander Zverev faces Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the day’s opening semifinal. Zverev, who already secured the year-end ATP world No. 1 ranking, advanced on Thursday with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Alex de Minaur. Davidovich Fokina progressed after Arthur Gea retired trailing 4-1.
The second semifinal pits Medvedev against Jodar. Medvedev holds a 5-1 head-to-head record against Paul from Friday, but faces the fearless 20-year-old Spaniard for the first time on the ATP Tour. The winners will contest Sunday’s championship match.
