Shanghai Masters: Davidovich Fokina into semifinals as Gea retires; Zverev meets de Minaur

Thursday afternoon at Stadium Court

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina became the first man into the semifinals of the 2026 Rolex Shanghai Masters on Thursday afternoon when Arthur Gea was forced to retire with a right leg injury. Davidovich Fokina led 4-1 after 18 minutes on Stadium Court before the French qualifier indicated he could not continue.

The 25th seed moves into his first ATP Masters 1000 semifinal of the 2026 season with minimal physical wear. Davidovich Fokina converted both break opportunities he earned before Gea called for medical evaluation and decided to stop.

Zverev against de Minaur tonight

The Thursday night session at Qizhong Arena features top seed Alexander Zverev taking on ninth seed Alex de Minaur. The winner will meet Davidovich Fokina in Saturday’s semifinals.

The bottom half of the draw plays its quarterfinals on Friday:

  • Daniil Medvedev (5) against Tommy Paul (15)
  • Rafael Jodar (12) against Casper Ruud (20)
