Shanghai Masters: Zverev beats Bublik to reach the quarter-finals
The top seed won 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-6 (1) in 2 hours 37 minutes. De Minaur, Gea and Davidovich Fokina also came through.
Four matches on Stadium Court
Tuesday’s round of 16 at the Rolex Shanghai Masters put four singles matches in the book. Alexander Zverev, the top seed and the year-end world No. 1, beat Alexander Bublik 7-6 (6), 4-6, 7-6 (1). The tournament board lists the match time as 2:37:48. Bublik was the 19th seed.
Alex de Minaur, the ninth seed, beat Karen Khachanov 6-3, 6-4 in 1:25:31. Arthur Gea beat 13th seed Jakub Mensik 7-6 (4), 6-4 in 1:37:01. Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the 25th seed, beat Hubert Hurkacz 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) in 2:04:01. The ATP results note lists the same four scores.
What is still to be played
Four round-of-16 singles matches are still to be played, including Tommy Paul against Zizou Bergs, Botic van de Zandschulp against Rafael Jodar, Casper Ruud against Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Daniil Medvedev against Stefanos Tsitsipas. The quarter-finals already set by Tuesday are Zverev against de Minaur, and Gea against Davidovich Fokina. This desk does not print a clock for the matches that have not been played.
Jannik Sinner has not played since the Wimbledon final and remains out for the rest of the season. Monday’s result still stands: Bergs beat Carlos Alcaraz 7-5, 7-6 (4).
